Individual Websites for Individuals
The Cathedrals Cycle Route
The Challenge: The client had created a successful national cycle route, but its story and practical guidance were scattered online. Cyclists needed one trusted place to plan the ride, understand the route, and connect with its deeper purpose.
The Solution: I designed a story-led website that brings the creator’s vision into focus, guiding visitors into participation that suits them.
The structure blends narrative and functionality: introducing the meaning behind the route, then supporting riders with practical planning tools, safety guidance, kit advice, and integration with online route planners. Clear pathways help cyclists choose an approach that matches their ability. Conversion-focused copy encourages action, while a dedicated community page captures real stories, motivations, and shared experiences, reinforcing the emotional impact of the route and inviting others to become part of it.
Before working with the Town Mouse, the Cathedrals Cycle Route had a strong story and growing community behind it, but perhaps struggled to fully capture and communicate the spirit, warmth and purpose at the heart of the project.
What stood out throughout the process was the genuine care, depth and effort that Lisa put into understanding both the route and the people behind itand importantly, the purpose. Rather than simply designing a website, Lisa immersed herself in the project, engaging with the CCR WhatsApp group, speaking personally with cyclists and supporters, and taking the time to uncover the many stories and experiences connected to the route.
The finished website feels warm, authentic and true to the original ethos of CCR. Importantly, it reflects not just the practical side of the route, but also the community, friendships and personal journeys that have helped shape it over the past five years.
One of Lisa’s real strengths is her ability to listen carefully to what a client is trying to achieve and then translate that into words and storytelling that feel natural and genuine. At no point did the process feel forced or overly commercial, instead the Town Mouse helped uncover and express what was already there.
The result is a website that has given the Cathedrals Cycle Route a clear voice and identity, while still retaining the modest, accessible and community-led spirit that makes the project special.

The Artistic Lens
The Challenge: This independent photographer offers portraits, headshots, events and commercial work. With broad services and an impressive client list, the challenge was to create a home page that communicated his full offer without overwhelming visitors, while conveying the warmth and personal approach that sets him apart.
The Solution: I wrote and designed a Squarespace home page that led with the client’s core proposition - making people look and feel their best - then guided visitors through a clear, four-step booking journey. I also wrote his About page, weaving his credentials and experience into an engaging personal story. The copy across both pages balanced professionalism with personality, putting even camera-shy customers at ease. The client then confidently completed the rest of the site himself.
Gabr Pilkington Associates
The Challenge: As a new start-up, this highly experienced team of expert hospitality auditors needed an authoritative, accessible website that would do the work of introducing them from scratch, establishing credibility, explaining a nuanced range of services, and convincing independent hotel owners to trust them with something as sensitive as an operational audit.
The Solution: I built their first website on Webador, structured around a single clear message: that hidden problems cost independent hotels money, and an experienced outside eye is the solution. The homepage draws visitors in with a confident, authoritative proposition before guiding them through GPA's full range of audit services, from pre-opening consultancy through to environmental audits, each explained in plain, persuasive language aimed directly at busy owners. Testimonials from early clients are placed to build trust at exactly the right moments, and every page leads naturally towards making contact.
Opening a new company is always daunting but our visions were absolutely taken on board by Lisa. In the first instance, we were not sure that we even needed a website. We approached Lisa who really listened to what we were trying to achieve, interviewing both partners to ascertain our take on where the business was to be positioned and what we could offer to our potential clients. There was never any “push” towards a particular set up, rather there was a willingness to offer advice when needed to make our company more visible. Professional from start to finish; Town Mouse is highly recommended.
We have had very favourable responses to the website which is clear to follow and we are exceedingly happy with the outcome.

Stay Calm, Teach Music
The Challenge: This small start-up was offering professional development resources for primary school teachers. They needed a simple, affordable site that could go live quickly, with clear links to their external Etsy shop and KIT landing pages, plus copy that would speak directly to non-specialist teachers who may feel overwhelmed.
The Solution
The client requested a Webador build and I created a simple, clear site structured around the customer journey, guiding visitors from their pain point through to the solution. All copy was written in a calm, encouraging voice that mirrored the brand ethos, positioning the founder’s forty-plus years of experience as the credible antidote to her audience's worries. Strategic calls-to-action and clearly signposted links to their Etsy shop and KIT pages kept the site simple, but purposeful.
Whitby Hot Chocolate Festival
The Challenge: The site needed to do several things at once: provide clear event information, encourage charity donations, celebrate local businesses, and communicate the deeply personal reason the founder created the festival.
The Solution: The client requested a Webador build, which meant a simple design, with a clean, intuitive homepage that made event listings and the interactive map easy to access, while making the founder’s story and the charity’s purpose clear throughout the site. Local business links and carefully placed calls to donate and get involved reinforced the festival’s community spirit.
It was around this time last year when I was setting up the First Whitby Hot Chocolate Festival. I was initially alone with the idea and was relying on my ability to relate to people, encouraging them to get on board with my plans. I had absolutely no idea about websites or social media; I was naive to think that my passion would get me through. Everyone I spoke to was telling me that I had to “get on social media,” or, “have you got a website?” It was all very scary stuff. I simply swept all that under the carpet and carried on making contacts using my own Stone Age methods. Then I found Lisa from Town Mouse and everything changed.
Lisa interviewed me, asked about my motivation, plans and ultimate vision for the project. I recall thinking at the time, well, this has taken me up a step. I suddenly felt very valued and professional, like I had something very important to say and do. Lisa too was very professional; it was as if she had synced with my passion and vision, I now know that is exactly what she did do, because my vision mattered to her. She supported me every step of the way. Together, we inspired businesses to take part in something important for Whitby, its small businesses and its residents.
Lisa listened to everything I had to say and encouraged me to dream bigger. Her passion raised me to a level I didn’t know I had. In spite of my resistance to go anywhere near modern technology, I must admit that her knowledge and reassurance lead to a finished website that was a complete, multi-faceted manifestation of my vision for a Whitby Hot Chocolate Festival complete with the very desirable route map which gave participating businesses an opportunity to promote themselves and advertise their chocolatey festival offerings, as well as information about events, competitions and our then charity partner.
In my experience the work produced by Town Mouse is thorough and trustworthy, taking all aspects of research enormously seriously in order to protect the client and their vision.
I am certainly happy to work alongside Town Mouse once again as we go for the next Whitby Hot Chocolate Festival 2026.

Squarespace is so versatile for design and we can really think hard about the way you want to portray yourself online. They have some great templates but there’s plenty of scope for our own design ideas - below are some example of bespoke home pages for imaginary businesses to get the creative juices flowing.
